Re-Imagining Circle

Sundays, 15 minutes after service ends

Weekly circles open to all community members, meeting throughout May and June while Rev. DeeAnn is on sabbatical.

The ReImagining Circles are a space for visioning, discernment, and honest conversation about what Unity in Marin’s next chapter looks like.

This is not a committee — it is a communal spiritual practice. It is anchored in our spiritual practices of visioning, affirmative prayer and meditation. Every voice belongs here. Especially the hesitant ones.

Unity In Marin Prayer Shawl Ministry

Schedule changes – contact coordinator, Chris Sleight at csleightca@alumni.psu.edu for information.

In 1998, Janet Severi Bristow and Victoria Galo, two graduates of the 1997 Women’s Leadership Institute at The Hartford Seminary in Hartford, CT, gave birth to a ministry as a result of their experience in their program of Applied Feminist Spirituality.  Compassion and the love of knitting & crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice, reaching out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy.

Many blessings are prayed into every stitch.  The shawlmaker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient.  The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl.  Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way.  The blessing ripples from person to person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of a sheltering, mothering God!

UIM’s Prayer Shawl Ministry began in 2013.  After the shawl is created, it is further blessed by the Prayer Chaplain Circle, then given to the recipient with intentions for good health, or with gratitude for service to the community, or as a celebration of new beginnings.  As of February 2023, 57 Prayer Shawls have been given, along with 17 baby blankets.
