Nevin Valentine - Biography

Nevin’s life has been an exciting journey of teaching, creating, and pioneering in the study of children and family life. In the beginning of her career, she was the first instructor hired for California Parenting Institute when it was a brand new agency. During her tenures at CPI, she taught almost every class offered and created Twos Together, Storytime Together, and, for her master's thesis, wrote the curriculum guide for Begin Again, the program for families at risk. Most recently at CPI, she was an instructor for the Star Is Born program.

She was the coordinator of the Napa Valley College Parent Education Program, a program she created. She was the Napa coordinator for the TRECC (Training for Careers in Early Childhood) Program.

It is also her great joy to be a member of the Child Development Department at SRJC. She created the class, Sensitive Issues. Her career went full circle when a student enrolled in her Child Development course who was once a two year old in her Twos Together class!  Recently she was awarded the Adjunct Instructor of the Year at Santa Rosa Junior College.

Her recent focus in her work has been on teaching relationship skills. After almost three decades of teaching parent education, she realized the importance of couples and families learning relationship skills. She is a Certified Relationship Coach, licensed by the Relationship Coaching Institute. She is one of the first Imago Educators trained by Harville Hendrix and Helen Hunt, the developers of the Imago Theory. She is the past president of a nonprofit organization she helped establish, Imago Couples International.

With her husband Darrell, Nevin co-leads Couples Circles, Community Circles, and Couplehood as a Spiritual Path workshops at Unity In Marin.  She has been a ten year truth student, taking SEE classes as well as the foundational Unity courses.  Serving the Unity In Marin community as a teacher is her profound joy and privilege.
