Contemplative- Unmasking God - Sunday October 30th, 2016
Unmasking God - A Contemplative Service
It seems ... Read More timely to reflect on some of my wonderings about God just prior to a holiday in which we celebrate the Ghosts and Goblins getting candy and putting on outer masks. What ghost are we truly afraid of? What masks do we put on to get rewards? Do we recognize who we are without the masks?

Total Surrender - Sunday October 23rd, 2016
The Surrender Experiment – Total Surrender
A few ... Read More years ago we read The Untethered Soul also written by Michael Singer. It was and is one of my favorite books. I imagined him writing this in a cabin in the woods with few distractions. When I got to the last chapter of The Surrender Experiment and realized what he was facing at the time he wrote both these books it brought tears to my eyes.
He really was a living example of living this principal of Surrender in order to be able to write both of these books during a time that was tumultuous to say the least. Join me as we explore what it means to fully embrace Surrender.

When dark clouds become rainbows - Sunday October 16th, 2016
The Surrender Experiment – When Dark Clouds Become ... Read More Rainbows
Can we surrender when things are successful? How easy it would have been to let his ego over identify with the outer success. Yet his practice in success and apparent challenge saw him through these ups and downs.
From moving his business to going public as a corporation, followed by the realization that he and his company was going to be out maneuvered to an eventual merger… these are some of the changes that Michael Singer faced.
At each turn the appearance was like dark clouds. Yet time and time again his practice of surrender was his pathway to self realization. This was and has been his goal.

Something Priceless is Born - Sunday October 9th, 2016
The Surrender Experiment – Something Priceless is ... Read More Born.
How big can we imagine? Do we limit our own good? How easy it is to sit back on our laurels and coast. What if we stayed open to bigger and better experiences in our life? What would happen? Michael Singer had a successful business and then found himself in another business, not by plan, but by following life energy following his bliss. Are we settling? Are we following our bliss? Or are we trying to tell the universe what it should be doing?

The Business of Surrender - Sunday October 2nd, 2016
This week I will talk about the un-folding of life ... Read More and our willingness or unwillingness to do what is in front of us. Can we be present to what shows up in our life? Can we step back and discern that this very energy that brought us this situation and or circumstance could be attempting to build us a much better life than we could have imagined? Michael Singer ends up transitioning from college professor to building contractor. Not the typical career path! The name of his company, Built with Love. Do we see the synchronicities as accidents or divine appointments?

The Surrender Experiment- Waking up - Sunday September 11th, 2016
This Sunday we launch our annual seven-week Book ... Read More study program. The book is The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer
When I started reading this book I saw common threads in books in my library. Seemed like every book I picked up there was another similar experience integral to so many on their spiritual paths. I was flinging books off the shelf Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, Jon Bernie, Yogananda, remembering this chapter and that chapter and realized I was on to something important for my own evolution in consciousness and wanted to share it with you.
I reflected on my own life and saw the times of surrender were some of the most fulfilling times of my life. I will share some experiences of these in the weeks to come.
All across California and beyond, people are getting together in small groups in home and on line to read this book and discuss the concepts. If you have not yet signed up for a book study group I encourage you to do so. It is a great opportunity to connect with others and to go deep into the concepts raised in this book.

Labor of Love - Sunday September 4th, 2016
Labor Day in the United States is a holiday ... Read More celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a celebration of the American labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. In honor of this holiday my talk is titled:
A Labor of Love!
We labor… but why do we labor? What are we seeking? What are the rewards? Of course we all want food, shelter and clothing as necessities that meet our basic human needs. Once that is accomplished what are we really laboring for? Is the gathering of stuff the purpose of our labor? Can we truly be engaged in a Labor of Love?
I invite you to come explore this topic with me on this Labor Day weekend.

The Gospel of Judas.
This is based on the book on the newly discovered Gospel of Judas. Could Judas have been the favored disciple? Could we have been judging Judas incorrectly for centuries? Was there a diversity of beliefs about Jesus in early Christianity? Was there good reason not to include this Gospel in the Bible?Let’s explore this on Sunday. I look forward to seeing you then.

Gospel of Mary - Sunday August 21st, 2016
This Sunday I will be talking on The Gospel of ... Read More Mary Magdalene.
The Gnostic Gospels sure do have a different take on the importance of Mary Magdalene than the Canonical Gospels. In the four gospels that we are most familiar with in the New Testament we see Mary as a minor character at best, a mere subplot in the larger story.
Although, when we read the Gnostic Gospels we see a woman who is much more of a main character in the larger story. In these writings she is a woman who was not only a serious student but also one to whom Jesus revealed deep teachings. In fact, she was important enough that some of the disciples were jealous of how Jesus seemed to favor her. As the Gospel of Phillip attests when a disciple asks, “Why do you love her more than us?”
I invite you to come and hear more about Mary, her Gospel, and her ongoing legacy.
Blessings, Rev. Bill

Exploring the Gospel of Thomas - Sunday August 7th, 2016
Bill and I are doing a series of ‘Gospel’ talks ... Read More this August, and while it is always fun to talk about the Gospels that everyone knows – Mathew, Mark, Luke and John – it is especially fun to talk about the ‘Lost Gospels’ - the ones that didn’t make the canonical bible cut because of politics! What a novel concept…. Politics kept something from being included with the company line, and caused the lost gospels to be buried in a papyrus dump in upper Egypt back in 300 c.e. Well….gee….gosh…..no one wants to read them anyway and the big state Christian Religion of Constantine will kill us if they find them! As I sit here on the beach in Maui, I am wondering what The Gospel of Thomas could possibly have to do with the ocean, or the beach, or life in general? Please join Bobby Finney and me this coming Sunday, August 7, for a spiritual archeological dive into the Lost Gospel of Thomas.
Many Blessings,

Many holy writings are commonly referred to as, The Book of ______. I believe each of us has within ourselves our own Book of Truths that we have discerned. Life lessons and Truths that have been revealed to me so far in life… My desire is that it provides food for thought and a willingness to look within for our own Book of Truth.

Intersteller - Sunday July 24th, 2016
The movie “Interstellar” takes place in the ... Read More distant future, when we have greater ability to navigate immense distances in space. The human race is nearing the end of the time when the earth can provide for it; pollution has continued unabated. There has been an ongoing huge search for another planet which human beings can inhabit.
Our hero, Matthew McConaughey, is a farmer with his family, in order to help produce food. We soon find that he was formerly a first class astronaut, and is now desperately needed to find the key to alleviating gravity, to allow masses of people to leave the planet at once.
This film appears to be an adventure story, and it is. I was first attracted it to it for its exciting scientific ideas - then I realized it is much more! The underlying metaphysical message is an inner-space adventure even more exciting than the outer-space one!
Through the characters' intense evolving awareness, their journey is guided by unseen forces, so that they end up using three spiritual/emotional paths to success.

Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy , Fear , Anger , Disgust, and Sadness . Over the years I realize that I have had a rocky relationship with I my own earthly father. So growing up with the concept of God as father was not very comforting. What I ended up doing was not to reject God because of that association but rather to equate God exclusively with the traits of The Divine Mother. “Prayer is not a means of arousing God to action but the process of waking up from our drowsiness so we can see ourselves, not in the mirror darkly but face to face.”
- Celebrate Yourself – Eric Butterworth
I am going to talk about prayer from Unity’s perspective as well as the idea of prayer being scientific. The founders of New Thought all say prayer as a science. Some of the names incorporate this in their titles: Christian Science, Divine Science & Religious Science.
I know that learning the New Thought way to pray was so radically different from what I was taught about prayer that I qualify it as revolutionary. Listen and watch as we explore this topic together!
