Peace - Sunday December 4th, 2016
How do the recent events — in all of their heart-b ... Read Morereaking complexity — remind us that we are called to something more? That we are invited to see that the season of Advent is rooted in Israel's and the early Christians' longing for justice, for reconciliation, for restoration and wholeness? And that this longing is not an in-the-meantime passive acceptance of the status quo but an active participation in the work of healing and Peace? We tangle and we are entangled. Like two or more particles that interact in such a way that the full state of each cannot be described independently, the state of each of us can be accounted for only in reference to the state of every one of us. Please join your friends and fellow travelers on the path this coming Sunday as we explore the fact that Peace is not wishful thinking; it is risk and action and the courage to undertake both.
Blessings,
Rev. Medora

Unconditional Giving - Sunday November 20th, 2016
Unconditional Giving is the title of this coming w ... Read Moreeeks talk. I would like to think that I have always been an unconditional giver…but alas that has not always been the case. Even today, there are times that I realize that I have unconsciously put parameters and expectations around gifts I have given. These thoughts become conscious when inner judgment arises about what that person should have done with my gift or how they should have been changed by receiving it etc...
I know that I am a work in progress around this topic. With Thanksgiving right around the corner it is a prime time to reflect on what giving is and what it is not. Let us look at unconditional giving together. I will share with you a truth about how unconditional giving has within it a hidden gift.

So what is the spiritual response and approach to dealing with apparently divisive issues in our lives? After all at different times in our lives we all end up dealing with issues that may take a long time to resolve. For each of us maybe it is an illness, divorce or death of a loved one. I look forward to sharing some tools to help us regain peace of mind while dealing with any kind of Dis-ease.
Lets remember, we are more than red states and blue states, were the United States.

A few y ... Read Moreears ago we read The Untethered Soul also written by Michael Singer. It was and is one of my favorite books. I imagined him writing this in a cabin in the woods with few distractions. When I got to the last chapter of The Surrender Experiment and realized what he was facing at the time he wrote both these books it brought tears to my eyes.
He really was a living example of living this principal of Surrender in order to be able to write both of these books during a time that was tumultuous to say the least. Join me as we explore what it means to fully embrace Surrender.

Can we surrender when things are successful? How easy it would have been to let his ego over identify with the outer success. Yet his practice in success and apparent challenge saw him through these ups and downs.
From moving his business to going public as a corporation, followed by the realization that he and his company was going to be out maneuvered to an eventual merger… these are some of the changes that Michael Singer faced.
At each turn the appearance was like dark clouds. Yet time and time again his practice of surrender was his pathway to self realization. This was and has been his goal.

How big can we imagine? Do we limit our own good? How easy it is to sit back on our laurels and coast. What if we stayed open to bigger and better experiences in our life? What would happen? Or are we trying to tell the universe what it should be doing?

When I started reading this book I saw common threads in books in my library. Seemed like every book I picked up there was another similar experience integral to so many on their spiritual paths. I was flinging books off the shelf Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, Jon Bernie, Yogananda, remembering this chapter and that chapter and realized I was on to something important for my own evolution in consciousness and wanted to share it with you.

A Labor of Love!
We labor… but why do we labor? What are we seeking? What are the rewards? Of course we all want food, shelter and clothing as necessities that meet our basic human needs. Once that is accomplished what are we really laboring for? Is the gathering of stuff the purpose of our labor? Can we truly be engaged in a Labor of Love?
I invite you to come explore this topic with me on this Labor Day weekend.

Gospel of Mary - Sunday August 21st, 2016
This Sunday I will be talking on The Gospel of Mar ... Read Morey Magdalene.
The Gnostic Gospels sure do have a different take on the importance of Mary Magdalene than the Canonical Gospels. In the four gospels that we are most familiar with in the New Testament we see Mary as a minor character at best, a mere subplot in the larger story.
Although, when we read the Gnostic Gospels we see a woman who is much more of a main character in the larger story. In these writings she is a woman who was not only a serious student but also one to whom Jesus revealed deep teachings. In fact, she was important enough that some of the disciples were jealous of how Jesus seemed to favor her. As the Gospel of Phillip attests when a disciple asks, “Why do you love her more than us?”
I invite you to come and hear more about Mary, her Gospel, and her ongoing legacy.

Read Moreis August, and while it is always fun to talk about the Gospels that everyone knows – Mathew, Mark, Luke and John – it is especially fun to talk about the ‘Lost Gospels’ - the ones that didn’t make the canonical bible cut because of politics! What a novel concept…. Politics kept something from being included with the company line, and caused the lost gospels to be buried in a papyrus dump in upper Egypt back in 300 c.e. Well….gee….gosh…..no one wants to read them anyway and the big state Christian Religion of Constantine will kill us if they find them! As I sit here on the beach in Maui, I am wondering what The Gospel of Thomas could possibly have to do with the ocean, or the beach, or life in general? Please join Bobby Finney and me this coming Sunday, August 7, for a spiritual archeological dive into the Lost Gospel of Thomas.

The human race is nearing the end of the time when the earth can provide for it; pollution has continued unabated. There has been an ongoing huge search for another planet which human beings can inhabit.
Our hero, Matthew McConaughey, is a farmer with his family, in order to help produce food. We soon find that he was formerly a first class astronaut, and is now desperately needed to find the key to alleviating gravity, to allow masses of people to leave the planet at once.
This film appears to be an adventure story, and it is. I was first attracted it to it for its exciting scientific ideas - then I realized it is much more! The underlying metaphysical message is an inner-space adventure even more exciting than the outer-space one!
Through the characters' intense evolving awareness, their journey is guided by unseen forces, so that they end up using three spiritual/emotional paths to success.
